Tino's Plumbing, located in the Pajaro Valley, started ten years ago when Tino Rodriguez was working for a local plumbing company and decided to enter the Moen National Cartridge contest at Lake Tahoe. He won the competition for fastest plumber in the nation and received a 1957 cherry red T-Bird convertible as his prize. At the same time, the company he was working for was having financial trouble and Rodriguez recognized that it was a good time to strike out on his own. So, in 1992, using the T-Bird he won as collateral, he decided to start his own family business, Tino's Plumbing.

Tino first came to the Santa Cruz Community Credit Union through a referral from the City of Watsonville. The SCCCU gave him a loan for the first van for his business, which began a working relationship that has lasted over 10 years. Tino's Plumbing started with one van and as grown to include 5 more vans, an office, a showroom and 13 full-time employees who provide 24-hour emergency response to Watsonville, Aptos and Salinas. "We've grown quite a bit over the last 10 years," says Tino. "We've been doing very well and we recently became incorporated, which was an important step for us."

"Our relationship with the SCCCU is really a partnership," Tino explains. "We have been doing business exclusively with the Credit Union for 10 years now. The reason I've stayed with the SCCCU for so many years is because it's always hassle free to work with them. They have good rates and they are easy to work with. Next I'd like to use their business line of credit. We recently worked with the City of Watsonville and the SCCCU to get a loan to open our showroom here in Watsonville. We not only use them for our business, but to purchase our personal vehicles as well. The Credit Union even calls us for their plumbing needs!"
